Highlights:
  • Bridlewood School will be collecting items for those who are in need to get through the cold winter. This initiative is in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CHMA) work to help people in the Calgary community. 
  • In Math, students did a quick quiz about coordinate graphing and played multiplication battleship. 
  • A quick review of Democracy by playing the Jeopardy game.
  • We started learning about the Phases of the Moon.  Students will be recording their observations of the moon each night and to record their feelings on that day.  They will be coming home with their "Moon Journal" on Wednesday.
  • Students worked on their powerpoint presentations where they are adding visuals and voice to their tree stories.
  • Our day ended with Caroling and hearing the Senior choir - Wow!!!!

  • We studied for Evidence & Investigation by playing an intense game of "Jeopardy" - Test will be Tomorrow!
  • We worked in partners and small groups gathering information about Democracy and Government.
  • Students worked on their powerpoint presentations where they are adding visuals and voice to their tree stories.

Highlights:

  • Continued our summaries, connections, questions and human impact/deforestation about the Lorax.  
  • Students created their study pages for Evidence & Investigation - Test will be on Friday December 13th.
  • We were introduced to a piece of local art that we first observed, questioned the story of the artwork and what the artist was trying to say.  Next we looked closer at the art and perspectives changed.  The art not only is connected to Trees and Forests but also math - patterns.  It is pretty amazing.  We will be continuing with this concept tomorrow.

Highlights:

  • We worked on multiplying decimals today and some of our work with larger numbers.  We discussed clues that are in word problems that can help us choose the correct operation.
  • Reading comprehension about cell phones sparked our interest and lead to some insightful thoughts about cell phones in the school.
  • We ended our day by watching Lorax.  Students summarized, made connections and created questions.  The deeper connection to Lorax is to Trees & Forest focusing on human impact and deforestation.

  • We started off the day talking about How Bridlewood School will be collecting items for those who are in need to get through the cold winter. This initiative is in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CHMA) work to help people in the Calgary community.

    We will be starting our collection of donations at Bridlewood School starting December 5th at Parent- teacher interviews and will collect items until Dec. 19th.
  • We revisited our thoughts on 'What makes a "Good Writer?'  Students continued writing about their quiet happy place.
  • We had music and gym today.
  • Our day ended with Buddies where we are making posters to hang up around the school about collecting items for CHMA (Canadian Mental Health Association).  Donations can be toiletries and clothing.

  • Music and Gym today
  • We worked on our math coordinate portraits.  It connects to our Evidence & Investigation unit in Science as the students are the "suspects."  They are looking AMAZING!
  • Students wrote about their Seven Sacred Teaching that will guide them this year and started Art work to represent their teaching.
  • In Math, we continued with the 'Allowance Problem' where students had to determine which option they would prefer - $100 per day for 30 days or $0.01 which would double for 30 days (for example: Day 1 would be $0.01, Day 2 $0.02, Day 3 $0.04, Day 4 $0.08).

Highlights:

  • We will be finishing our Life of a Tree stories this week.  Students worked on these focusing on editing their work.
  • In Math, we started learning about the Cartesian Plane (coordinate grid system) and we created a few pictures by plotting the coordinates.  We will continue with this work throughout the week.
  • For Evidence and Investigation, we reviewed quickly some of the information that we have learned about solving a crime, looking at evidence and the 3 important things that make a good detective.
  • Our day ended by marking our territory with our finger prints which we will be looking at closer.

I was able to cancel my order this evening and get a full refund. Please try to cancel your order. Otherwise the school will refrigerate the lunches and students will come home with them for the weekend. The following day is a PD day so no school for students on the Friday. We apologize for this mix up.

Highlights:

  • We continued writing our “Life of a Tree” stories from the perspective of the tree.  
  • Estimating and multiplying decimals was our focus for math.  We applied our knowledge when using the window markers on the windows, desk and bench.
  • For Evidence and Investigation, our focus was looking deeper at various shoes and classifying the class characteristics and accidental characteristics.  We concluded by talking about DNA ( DeoxyriboNucleic Acid). 
  • We worked on our Seven Sacred Teaching visual journal page.  Students need to pick a teaching that will guide them throughout the Grade 6 year.
  • Tomorrow we will review the Science Tests.

  • We started working on our “Life of a Tree” stories from the point of view of the tree.  This will continue to be our focus for Literacy this week.
  • Estimating multiplying decimals was a focus for math.  We made a few estimations, discussed overestimating and underestimating and where it is applicable in "real life."
  • For Evidence and Investigation, our focus was looking at hair and fibre as evidence at a crime.
  • We worked on our Seven Sacred Teaching visual journal page.  Students need to pick a teaching that will guide them throughout the Grade 6 year.

Highlights:

  • We had our Trees & Forest test today
  • Our artwork of the poppies will be displayed on the wall for the assembly tomorrow. 
  • We listened to a few letters that we wrote to the veterans thanking them for their service.  All of the letters were thoughtful and will be sent to the veterans. When deciding who was going to represent our voice in the assembly tomorrow the class decided that they wanted to make the decision about who to pick in a democratic way so the students voted.  Ethan will be sharing his letter tomorrow and thank you to all the students who offered to speak on behalf of us. 
  • For Evidence and Investigation, we tested our detective skills looking at our finger-prints with magnifying glasses.

  • Today we had gym and music.
  • We did some letter writing to veterans.  Our letters were to be meaningful, intentional and from the heart.  
  • We had a nice quiet focus time during Art while we painted poppies focusing on positive and negative space in a picture.  Positive space is the main focus of a picture, negative space is the background.
  • For Evidence and Investigation, we did our finger-prints yesterday.  
  • We ended our day playing a math game that involved ordering decimals and reading them with the other Grade 6 classrooms.

Highlights: 
  • Today we had Mrs. Palamar's class join our room and we worked on the "To Do" list of projects/tasks/assignments to complete.
  • The podcast (audio-story) has lots of suspense and leaves you wanting to listen to more.  We listened to a few episodes and discovered that the story has a few characters who are not showing the Seven Sacred Teaching of Truth or Honesty.
  • We had the opportunity to be leaders and teach our buddies how to play compound games.
  • For Evidence and Investigation, we discussed the various jobs/roles that the police department has.  We watched a video that showed training for the police force.  Science concluded with 'steps that are taken to solve a crime' and fingerprints.  We will investigate this further next week. 
  • *** We need Volunteers!!!  Our upcoming field trip to Youth Links (Calgary Police Interpretive Centre) is on Thursday November 21st.  Please email Mrs. Wagenblast if you are interested in volunteering for the field trip.  It is a great one!!
